Katie Combaluzier medical costs - Please donate

Katie Combaluzier

Katie Combaluzier was skiing in Grenoble, France, when she was surprised by an avalanche and severely injured.

Katie is 24 years old and is a long time member of Craigleith Ski Club in Collingwood, Ontario. She started skiing at the age of 3, and grew up racing in Craigleith's race program and continued until the J level. Her passion for skiing gained from Craigleith did not stop after her racing career, and she's constantly looking for new and exciting places to hit the slopes! Katie is currently a first year medical student at the University College Dublin, in Dublin, Ireland, and is an alumni of Queen's University in Kingston Ontario where she received a bachelor of Kinesiology, with Dean's Honour.

The avalanche caught Katie, and the other members of her group of guard. She was swept away and hit a post. Due to bad weather conditions the helicopter could not land near Katie so she was taken down in a ski toboggan, and then airlifted to a nearby hospital from where the helicopter could land further down the slope. As a result of the avalanche, Katie broke her lumbar, a bone in the spine in the lower back. She underwent surgery to repair the break, and may need another surgery in the future. She currently has no feeling below her right knee. As part of her recovery she will need to lay completely flat for 45 days, with 6 months of rehabilitation therapy to follow.

Any contribution, not matter how small, are greatly appreciated and will help support her medical costs, including rehabilitation and medical transfers (we're hoping to bring her home to Toronto!)

Katie enjoys being active and busy and were hoping to get her back on her feet as soon as possible so she can continue doing what she loves! Here's the article on CBC
